Northern Pike

Northern Pike fishing
Alaska's best kept secret is its large northern pike. And not just 10 or 15 fish... but 25, 30 and the occasional 40 pound monster! These Alaskan pike hold five of nine world record line class records and four of seven world record fly-line tippet records. The Alaskan state record is 38 pounds 15 ounces. MSTPA largest pike is 54 inches weighing an estimated 42 pounds. All of these records have been set since 1990 and are subject to be broken without notice. MSTPA enjoys providing season long pike fishing success for it's guests. The Alaskan pike are not affected like Canadian pike where the large fish are only accessible during a short spring ice-out period. This is due to the perfect design of Alaska's Yukon river environment and the type of habitat and forage base that it is comprised of. From the beginning of our season in June through the month of September, MSTPA pike fisherman will enjoy fantastic fishing. Most of our fishing is done in water of less than five feet deep.

trophy pike fishing

What makes the Alaskan pike water special over Canadian waters? Due to the year long availability of the big fish and the shallow water in which the fishing takes place; any fisherman with a dream of catching a trophy northern pike can expect to catch one. In fact they can expect to catch more than one. During the last three summers alone, MSTPA saw its guests catch and released over three-thousand (3,000) fish over 40 inches. Of those 40 plus inch there were 211 pike caught over 47 inches long with 30 of those 47 inch plus fish over 50 inches long. The largest of these monster pike measured 53 1/2 inches long and weighed an estimated 36 pounds. Not bad for three seasons. Guests often ask "when is the best time to come?" Due to the year long availability of big pike we recommend our guests plan their trip based on what type of Alaskan salmon they want to catch on their fly-out.
