How were the accommodations: Good How was the food: Good How was the service: Excellent General comments: We committed a lot of our time to plastic baits. Weather changed the fishing after day 1. We caught 5 over 7lbs. first morning using Silver w/black flake sluggo's. We were getting ate up with fish and we missed a lot of hits. Next day we switched to 10" Power Worms (Blue Fleck) and 8" Lizards (Black w/blue Tail). We had a lot of success fishing cover with these baits. After 3 outings am/pm/am we had all of our big fish for the trip. We had a hard time getting a big fish on the last day. I will say that on the 12th of January, 17 fish over 10lbs. were caught (amazing). I am glad my buddy, David Maserang was one of the anglers with a fish over 10, or I would have been humiliated. We had a great time fishing this lake. We laughed about it today, both of us are still feeling the urge to set the hook while at work. For anglers who have never been, it is easy to get so caught up in trying to land the big one that you do not relax a lot. The scenery is some of the best around! The eagles were amazing ! Outfitters comments: Well organized, trip was great! Bookers comments: Good web-site, we were well informed.

spinnerbait. We had 2 guides, one was very good, the other was ok. Boats were
good.

How were the accommodations: Excellent How was the food: Excellent How was the service: Excellent General comments: My son and I went in for the first three days of cast and blast. The hunting was great. Need say no more. We immediately caught fish when we first arrived. Top water was very active and we used Sammy's almost exclusively. My son killed me the next day on Blue Fleck 10" power worms. I tried lots of different plastic baits and caught fish on most of them. The best colors were blue fleck, black, black/blue tail, watermelon, and green pumpkin. There was very little crankbait action until the wind came up and jerk baits were excellent. Sluggos in white and white /silver sparkle were excellent. The boats were good. Our guide was excellent and we had a lot of fun fishing with him. He worked his bottom off trying to get us on fish. Weather was great-80's.One front came through. Terrific time fishing.

Comments: Popular Lures Used this Week Most Productive Lure Used
Sorry for being so long getting this fishing report out. This is the week I
was at the Lake. This report only represents about 14-15 anglers. At the last
minute a group of 16 canceled to go to Lake Comedero. I cannot imagine why
anyone would want to drive two hours past Lake El Salto, stay in a lesser
quality lodge that requires an armed guard be with you at all times, even when
you are fishing, and not have the same quality fishing. It rained every day we
were at the Lake, putting the Lake on a rise and caused it to get murky in some
areas. The quantity was down some, but the size was incredible as you can see
from the report from Anglers Inn below. I caught the 14.6 which is my lifetime
best and my fishing partner Creighton Pickering caught the 13.8 which is also
his personal best. Additional Info or changes:

90's during the day. Outfitter comments: Undoubtedly, Anglers Inn is the BEST there is. Nothing goes unattended.
Nobody does it better. The service and quality are unparallel. You will not be
disappointed.

How were the accommodations: Excellent How was the food: Excellent How was the service: Excellent Any other comments about outfitter: Probably the best in the business. Any comments about the booker: I booked myself a great trip.
Some info for the trip that might be helpful to others: The fishing starts each day after breakfast at approx. 5:40 a.m.. The temp. each morning ranged from 47* to 51*. The first two hours were spent using topwaters and all of our success was on the smaller Pop-Rs (lighter colors). We had some luck with the black baby torpedoes. I heard some of the fishermen complain that they were "wasting" time with the topwaters. Personally, I found it very productive and we caught plenty of fish with lots of size. We would eventually switch to crankbaits (shad/blue) and these were also productive. After one to two hours of crankbaits we would switch to worms and lizards for the rest of the day. I used 7 inch green/chartreuse lizards exclusively ( #4 hooks and 3/4 oz. sinkers) and had constant action. My son used red and purple 7-9 inch worms and also had great action. The wind picked up significantly in the afternoon but was never a big problem and provided relief from the 90* heat. At the end of two of our three days of fishing we spent the last hour with topwaters. Lots of fun but not as productive. The most productive baits, by far, were the worms and lizards. The early morning topwater was great fun. There were no biting insects but sunscreen is a must. My son caught his big fish on a 7 inch purple worm, #4 hook, and 3/4 oz. sinker. He was using 20 lb. test line. This is amust, as you know, because of all the timber. We probably lost at least 5 fish in the 7-12 lb. range because they got tangled in the wood. Comments to Booking Agent: Terry, I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how our trip to El Salto Lake went. The lodge and people exceeded all of my expectations. I found them all to be genuinely concerned that we have a good trip. The service and hospitality was excellent! The fishing was outstanding. My son caught an 11.0 and he is still excited. We will get a replica made. In addition we caught a 10.0, 9.7, 9.5, 9.3, 7.8, 6.7, 6.6 and a host of other bass that I previously would have referred to as "lunkers". In total we caught 209 bass in three full days of fishing. Thanks for the assistance and I look forward to going back. Jack DeVaney
