Dear Terry

I wanted to give you a quick fishing report for the time period of 6/09/05 to 6/14/05.

Our first day was spent offshore out of el Sid marina, and we caught 4 stripe marlin between 70 and 150 pounds. We lost four other fish before getting the first on in the boat. This was the most intense fishing experience of my life because I've never caught a marlin before or fought a fish for 1.5 hours. Regarding the bass fishing, my fishing partner Mel Hadry and I caught well over 120 fish per day between 4 and 7 pounds and two of the days we caught close to 100 fish each. We had several periods when we caught fish on every cast for over an hour. We especially enjoyed the fact we caught them on so many different baits - crank baits, swim baits, plastic worms & lizards, sluggos, pop-r's, spinnerbaits, and jigs. This was our second trip to El Salto and the fishing was so much better this year. The only possible negative was that unfortunately we weren't able to any of the really big fish to the net this year (last year we caught four fish over 10 pounds and our biggest was 12). This year our biggest fish were a couple of 9's, but we had four much bigger fish that were lost at the boat.

If you have any clients who don't believe the fishing that is possible at El Salto please have them call me (301-916-3711) because I didn't believe it either before I went.

Just check out Mark's Pictures below

Five and six inch swim baits in golden mullet and 8 inch lizards in watermelon with red flakes. Jan and I changed our guide after the first day due to his attitude, but the guide we had for the remainder of the time and the other two guides were great. The boats were fine and the weather was great. Folks should know that it is a "cash only" resort and there are no hardline telephones and cell phones don't work well at all at the resort. The staff was real good about letting you use their cell phone. , If my outfitter was you, Terry, I was very pleased wtih what you did to get this trip put together and make sure everything was set for us. We were treated very well and will highly recommend the trip to others.

THERE IS A TREMENDOUS NUMBER OF LARGE FISH IN EL SALTO. JUST HOW MANY YOU ARE LIKEY TO HOOK DEPENDS ON EACH FISHERMAN'S ABILITY. THE FOUR OF US ARE EXPERINCED BASS FISHERMEN, AND THIS IS THE SECOND TRIP. BAITS, THIS IS A BACK AND BLUE LAKE, THEREFORE 10 AND 12 INCH WORMS AND 8 AND 10 INCH LIZARDS WITH # 5\0 HOOKS, SWIM BAITS ARE OK, BUT TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO FISH. SMALL BAITS WILL CATCH SMALL FISH AND LOTS OF NUMBERS. ALL THE FISH WERE ACURATLY WEIGHTED WITH OUR SCALES BEING CALIBRATED AND USING THE INN'S BOCA. AVOID LETTING THE GUIDE TELL YOU HOW MUCH ONE WEIGHTS, JUST TO BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND OTHERS, THE TRIP WAS SUPER, FISHED 3 AND 1\2 DAYS. AT THE INN FOOD OK, AFTER ALL WE ARE FROM THE DEEP SOUTH NOT USED TO MANY MEXICAN DISHES. BREAKFAST VERY GOOD, IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE YOU ON THE LAKE, WRITER. WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR TO EL SALTO.

Jeff Olsen with his 8 lb 6 oz beauty

Terry and Mitzi,
Jim Boals and I had a great trip. What a beautiful facility and the staaff treated us like kings. The fishing was relatively slow and only two were caught over 10 lbs during the three days we were there. My biggest was 8 lbs 6 oz. A very nice fish. Our three day total was 52 fish with 2 over 8 lbs, 2 over 7 lbs, and 3 over 6 lbs. The waster was very low adn locals had hundreds of gill nets in the water (they took them out our last day) which may have contributed to a lower catch. Most of the other anglers reported similar numbers although a few had better successes. We had a great time and look forward to going again. Thanks for all your help in getting us there. Attached is a picture of my 8 lbs 6 oz fish

I and my brother caught 150+ fish in 3 days. Two at 11 pounds, 3 at 9 pounds, 5 at 7 pounds, and the rest between 1.5 and 4.5 pounds each. What a great trip and wonderful people!! I would  recommend it to anyone. I also met the owner while I was there. I have already booked the first week of May 2002 for 4 people.

Regards,
Alan Martin
