Report the morning of Feb 21st...are you sitting down? 19 fishermen at the Lodge this morning and 19 fish over 10 pound....ok enough said!
Summary from Feb 11th to Feb 18th
The fishing at Baccaraac has been nothing short of phenomenal. Personally being on the water, I have witnessed without a doubt the best fishery in the world producing the world's best angling. The number of 10+ lb. fish caught is too numerous to list for the last week. Troy Wells from California caught 22 over 10lbs. during his stay at the lodge. Steve Thomas of Dallas went out and caught a 10+ lb. fish every session his four days of fishing. Gayle Vaught of Arkansas, on Valentine's Day morning, caught 19 fish over 9 lbs. Now that's a Happy Valentine's Day! Gary West reported his best fishing trip ever, with fish up to 12 lbs. caught on a regular basis this past week. We have been fishing anywhere from 5 feet of water to 35 feet of water. Trent Loukas of Amarillo, TX, landed a 10.6 lber inches off of the bank using a solid black jig with a black trailer. 1 oz. spinnerbaits bounced on the bottom in 30 feet of water produced not only numbers but quality fish. Right now, Lake Baccarac has it all. If you want numbers, go up the river and you will catch all the fish you want. If you want trophies, as you can tell, they aren't too hard to find. More good news! Our five new rooms are complete and we have room at the lodge for more people for the rest of the season.

Short report .....fishing is excellent with 45 guests at the Lodge since last report and 18 fish over 10 pounds caught and posted on trophy board at Lodge .
From George Shwend: The fishing was hot as hell then cooled off a little with Eddie on the last day, but others had a big day when we struggled to find fish. Just shows you how guides have good days and bad, but not always because of the fish, but because their holes just aren’t producing. I’m not complaining, like I said I had a great time and a huge day on Friday. On Thursday (our first fishing day), Joe caught a 10’ 11’ fish that ended up winning our Big Fish Pool. He also had two 8’s and plenty of chucks. I caught fish also, but nothing to brag about. On day 2 I had a monster day with a 9.5. 9.25, 9.0, 8.5 and 8.0 to equal a 5 fish bag of 44.25 pounds! I also caught 3 7’s and more 6’s and 5’s then you can shake a stick at. It was by far my best day. I had caught the three 9’s by 8:30am. Eddie worked his ass off for us. .Senko producing best size and numbers From the Lodge: good fishing today the 8th and 9th with good numbers of fish being caught up the river. Some boats as little as 40 a day and others catching over 130 for the day. THe last couple of days has not produced anything over 10 pounds but lots of fish pushing the 10 pound mark, Good numberss of 5 to 6 pound bass being caught on Senkos and flukes. The water temp is now below 70 degrees. Jan10th from the Lodge: The cooler weather and water has slowed the big fish bite Rick Z did manage a 10.3 and Jin Daniel caught a 11.13 but overall the bigger fish have been few. Going up the river you can catch over 150 a day but most are small. Most guests are choosing to target the bigger fish spots. Flukes, senkos and floating worms....Jan 13th from the Lodge Joe Buker caught a 11.13 on Sunday morning but more impressive was the 25 fish between 7.2 and 9.3 he caught on Senkos/yumdingers yesterday afternoon. The area near Papachaw seems to be holding the better bigger fish right now. Topwater still reported as slow and 1 oz rattletraps starting to pick up a few fish

We're back on the water after Christmas break with cooler water and cooler air temperatures and clear, blue skies. Most boats are reporting over 100 fish a day per boat, fish over 11 lbs. being caught on 9 inch swimbaits.Topwater very slow the last couple of days but some really great spinnerbait action. Ramon, Chino and Mario are having the best results as guides this week. Remember, the weather is a little cooler so bring your hooded sweatshirts.

Recent Rains has added twelve more feet of water to the great Lake Baccarac. The rise in water did slow the results down but not for long!!!
Smith/Marsh group : We caught lots of quality fish in the 8 to 13 lb range. Even with the water level rising rapidly, we averaged 35-45 nice fish per day on various patterns/lures. We didn't catch as many fish as we did on our previous trip, but the quality was unbelievable. Most of the fish we caught were over 5 lbs, and we had ten to twleve fish between 9.8 & 13.2 lbs. Todd Smith had three fish over 11 lbs on a popper, spinnerbait, and fluke. Mike Bain had 2 fish over 10 lbs, and Greg Marsh caught the big fish at 13.2. All eight guys in our group did very well. The service and entertainment was great, and the improvements to the lodge are beautiful. Thanks for another great time south of the border! See ya soon!
Dan Davidson group of 4: "Fishing was great" 6 over 10 pounds from my boat and could have caught 150 per boat if we fished up near the cross. We fished the same pattern everyday! We got up, we got in Miguel's boat. Miguel was our guide. Miguel took us to the fishing spots. We threw the lure in the water. Fish jumped on lure. Weighed fish. Jumped up and down. Threw fish back in the water. Over 100 times that day. Returned to the lodge for cocktails and repeated that pattern for three days. It was great!
Whit Holsclaw grp of 4 1 oz white jigs white blue/black grubs...first day very slow...second day the best day fishing any lake in Mexico. 16 fish between 8 and 14 pounds ..".Do I need to say any more?"
BTW,, the fishing the third day..up the river and caught more fish than we could count. The morning we were departing Russ asked me " What do you think now? I answered " Unreal " that’s all I could say
The Lodge will be closed from Dec 22nd to Dec 28th for the Holidays

Just wanted to send an email thanking you for the great trip we had December 5-7 (Hess group of 6 from San Diego). We had numerous fish from 7lbs to 12lbs. The majority of our fish were caught on topwater and spinnerbaits, although we caught fish on every lure we used. The service at the lodge was second to none. Tachi, the van driver, is an excellent ambassador for your company. He went out of his way to serve us. (P.S. he took us twice for mouth watering tacos in Los Mochis). Lastly, my friend Dave Hokstad and I fished with Guide Ramon all three days. I have fished numerous lakes in Mexico and have had many different guides. Ramon, bar none was the best guide I have had. He knew exactly where to postion the boat and was awesome with the troll motor. I can tell you how frustrating it is to have guides who cant use a troll motor or know how to position a boat. With Ramon as the guide, our fishing time was effortless. We are already trying to plan another trip to Baccarac (Just have to tell our spouses)

Good topwater fishing with numbers really picking up way up the river. Some boats catching way over 150 today in the river way past the cross. Dr Ronald Hopkins reporting fish up to 11 pounds on topwater reported a little slower action than last year but lots of bigger fish. George Winstead " great trip" " Ramon is an excellent guide" with lots a heavy bass on rattletraps Ben Todd reported good fish caught on Watermelon lizzards up to 9 pounds with numbers always over 75 per day for the boat
Just in from John Lange. I just returned from a six day trip with my 10 year old son, Brett, to Baccarac. We had a great trip and fished with a truly excellent guide, Enrique. He was a lot of fun, was very patient with Brett, and seemed to enjoy having in the boat and teaching him a lot about Mexican Bass fishing. We averaged 45 fish per day and saw many very large fish. My biggest was 12 and Brett's was 7. Enrique hooked an 8 for him to bring in which was pretty cool. Gil Wright group of 6 on the 23rd caught 4 fish over over 10 pounds the first afternoon..Topwater ,,,,,The fishing has been all about location at the right time....Randy Harris reported 6 over 10 pounds in 4 days on the water with Zara Spooks producing the bigger ones

Bigger coming from the longer points near the Lodge. Overall numbers of fish caught less than this time last season but more size. Bill Q grp of 26 ( newenglandfishing grp) short report from the grp reports lots of bigger fish and many fish over 8 pounds and several fish over 10 for the group. topwater and swimbait action was the best in the ranch area. Guide Juan was noted as an excellent big fish finder......waiting on more details and pictures. The Lodge Report on the 12th first day of good action on lizzards reported today. The bigger fish coming on topwater with Russ and Rene both reporting several fish over 9 pounds and up to 12 pounds using super spooks ( wounded shad color )

Gil Wright grp of 9: In Short " Incredible " 9 fishermen and 9 fish over 10 pounds with 7, 8 and 9 pounders very common. Fishing from the new 22ft Skeeter " really enchances the Baccarac the trip " THe afternoon of the 3rd TOPWATER was excellent. Mike Young Grp We fished mainly deep water looking for the big ones..and we found them total of 42 fish over 8 pounds with 6 fish over 10 pounds and 2 fish over 12 pounds. One in a lifetime trip that I will now be making 3 more times this season note: listen to your guide, they know the lake. Chris Heppel grp of 6 our group of six fished last Wed.-Sat. (10/31-11/3). Four of us caught our lifetime biggest largemouth--more than once! (My 8-4, 9-4 and 10-3 were all personal bests.) We landed four fish over 10 pounds, including a 13-2, a 10-3, and two 10-0's. We also caught four nine's, about the same number of eight's, and many seven pounders. We probably averaged around fifty bass per boat per day. (We had 100% sunshine the entire time we were there and would really liked to have seen how a little cloud cover might have affected the fishing.) Our most effective baits were topwaters (poppers), and although the topwater fishing was best early and late, we were able to catch fish on the surface throughout the day. Big fish (9+) were also caught on fat free shad crankbaits (including the 13-2), 1 oz. spinnerbaits, and large (6") swim baits. The 10-3 was caught on a Devil's Horse (on Halloween!). Buzzbaits also produced, particularly late in the day. Although we fished some plastics, including senkos and lizards, these baits did not seem to be as effective, particularly on larger fish. If I were going back tomorrow, I would try to be on the water in a prime topwater spot at first light with a large popper ready to go. Same exact tactic for the last 30 minutes of light before dinner.
By the way, we had opportunities to fish with Rene', Sixto, Manuel, and Pedro, and all were excellent.

After fishing 20 years in Mexico I finally broke the 10 pound mark. This trip I caught 3 over 10 pounds and lost one that was a real gaint. ( at least 13 plus ). While some other boats had a little topwater action we did not. Caught our fish mostly on spinnerbaits 1 oz white made by Dick Pro Style Lures. 2 out of the 3 days our boat caught 150 bass per day and on the third day we only caught 45 bass for the day. This was the best trip ever with tons of heavy fish Report from BILL DOLL grp of 6. Another great trip to Baccarac!! I have fished this lake for a number of years with this trip producing the least quantity, but largest fish. Our group of six being conservative caught (50) 5 to 6#, (15) 7+#, (25) 8+, (10) 9+, (4) 10+, (2) 11+, a 12# & 12.2# with several anglers in our group new to this. The fish were mostly in a neutral or negative feeding mood, which required a " SLOW DOWN" presentation. Swimbaits and spinnerbaits were crawled along the bottom. The best spinnerbaits were 3/4oz. with a large single blade, gold or nickel in willow leaf or indiana profile which banged against the wire frame. If the topwater bite was slow, the wacky worm picked up the difference producing several grande. For some reason my 'go to' bait the lizard, did not produce very well, but that could change. The water temperature ranged from 78° in the morning to high of 82° and is slowly falling. I think as the water cools the topwater bite will explode because the bait fish do not yet need to warm up in the coves or shallow shorelines. Fishing Mexican lakes is a bit different than the U.S If you are going for the first time and want to catch a 'Grande', my suggestion is to listen to your guide's advice. They are very good at what they do. This is where I will continue chasing my 'Super Grande'. The food and accommodations as usual is very good. Have a great trip.

Food, service, guides and accommodations excellent as always. Our group of 5 caught on average 25 to 50 fish per day with the majority in the 4 to 5 pound range. Chapo Ulm caught the majority of the large fish with 4 over 10 pounds and several in the 6 to 8 pound range predominantly on topwater and 6” pearl swimbaits. Mike Powers nailed a fat 10.9 with a pearl fluke. Matt Brewer’s large was an 8 with several in the 5 to 6 pound range. Joe Copeland worked on landing the grande but had to settle on a 7.1. Derek Krider had several in the 5 to 6 pound range and one 7.2. Each of us lost at least one large fish well into the double digit range. After polling several groups of anglers at the lodge, most large fish are being caught on 6” pearl swimbaits, 1 oz. rattle traps, topwater baits, 1 oz. spinner baits and large crankbaits. The lake dropped about 4 feet in the 3 days we fished. We are looking forward to returning in March. Topwater fishing was the most spectacular I have ever seen and it is only starting to heat up. Make sure to change out any small treble hooks with larger ones on your topwater baits as the grandes will pull free; I missed three lunkers on topwater before swapping out with crankbait hooks.

I am a serious bass fisherman and I've been fishing in the north west US for 20+ years. My bass fishing goal has always been to catch the 'elusive' + 10 pounder. While on this trip, I exceeded that goal - more then I ever imagined. I still can't believe it - but I caught a 10.4, 10.6, 10.14, 10.11, 11, 11.4, 11.14 and a 12.2!!! I know some people might doubt these weights, but the photos are my proof and they are hanging on Russ' lunker board in the tackle shop at the lodge. Most of the fish were suspended in 17 to 35 feet of water. We caught them on pearl swim baits and fat free citrus shad cranks. As our fishing days went on, the fish started moving to the banks and we were able to catch some 7's and 8's and one 10 pounder on top water super spooks. We didn't catch a huge # of fish. We averaged 25 to 35 fish a day. But when you got a bite, it was a BIG one. We had 21 seven pounders, 17 eight pounders, 15 nine pounders, 5 fish in the 10 pound range, 4 fish over 11 pounds and the one 12 pounder! All I can say is you have a little piece of bass fishing heaven there! Thanks again for a fabulous trip! I hope to see you again SOON! Don Boeger

Mike Bradshaw's group of 6 in 4 days of fishing caught 23 bass over 10 pounds with Mike himself catching 11 of the total.
Wally C a fireman from Az yesterday caught 6 bass over 10 pounds.
All of the bigger fish are coming on swimbait and big spinnerbaits.
Day one of the Bill Hicks Grp ( grp of 24 from Hobbs )
fishing the 18th ... The over all numbers of fish caught per boat was way down( some boats only recording 15 fish ) ...But the size was not. With 24 anglers on the water today a total of 16 bass over 10 pounds recorded ranging from 10.3 to 14.1. Russ Johnson also was on the water and reported 2 fish over 10 and breaking off on one that was a gaint. Russ has been fishing the deep structure on the south end of the Lake. Rene has been fishing up the river.
All the big fish coming from deep water on swimbaits and slow rolling 1 oz spinnerbaits on the botto. So far the topwater bite has not been like last season......

Son OF Bass
Father/son group consisted of David Miller, Kyle Miller, Paul Miller, B.J. Hacker, Michael Sestak, Jimmy Irish, Jim Irish and Jeff Irish.
October 11: B.J. had a 10.8; Jimmy a 10.11 and 10.2; and first timebass fisherman, Paul, had a 10.2 and 10.9! The SOBs had 5 bass over 10 lbs; 3 nine pounders (two by David, one of which was 9.13); 7 eights; 7 sevens; 6 sixes; 8 fives; and 4 fours. About 130 total bass. October 12: Jim had a 12.4, the largest of the trip for the SOBs, and a 9.1; Jimmy had a 10.11; Jeff had a 11.6 (next largest for trip); and Kyle had a 10.0 and 9.3. The SOBs had 4 bass over 10 lbs; 2 nines; 7 eights; 14 sevens; 9 sixes; 5 fives; and 9 fours. About 105 total bass.
October 13: Paul, Jim and Jeff each had 10 pounders, with a 10.5 for newbe Paul; and another big niner for Michael. The SOBs had 3 bass over 10 lbs; 5 nines; 3 eights; 6 sevens; 8 fives; and 3 fours. About 50 bass. For the three day trip, the SOBs had 39 fish over eight pounds with 12 fish over ten pounds. They caught at least one ten pounder in each of the six half day outings. Cranks and swimbaits caught most of the nines and tens, with a few on big spinner baits. No large bass were caught on topwaters, and the SOBs abandoned them after the first morning to focus on larger fish. Only a few bass were caught on sinkos and lizards. Most of the larger bass were caught on flats (20 feet plus or minus) next to deeper water, both in the main lake and up the river channel. A few good fish were caught on points, but they were usually the smaller four to seven pounders. The ratio of big bass (over four pounds) caught to total bass caught was incredible (30%, 50% and 60% for the three days). As the days passed, the group was undoubtedly fishing more for larger bass and passing up top waters, plastics, etc. The six, seven, and eight pound bass were extremely hard fighters, usually more than the ten pounders. A large number of big fish were hooked and lost, usually if an SOB couldn’t keep them from jumping or didn’t get a good hook set! The weather was hot and humid, which made the beer and margaritas taste even better. The lake was smooth and the boats were trouble-free. The guides, food and Lodge hospitality were all excellent

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a wonderful trip we had to Lake Baccarac Lodge. Terry, Rene and all the staff just keep making this trip better and better.
The food was exceptional and the service was the same. Of course all of us are there for the fishing and this trip was the best fishing that I have ever had!!!!!!!!!! We only keep up with the big fish this time and here is the count: 18 fish between 8 and 9lbs, 9 fish between 9 and 10lbs, 1 10.4 fish, 1 10.8 fish, and 1 13.1lb fish. The report from the lake said that I caught a 13.4 and Tina Gilcrease the 13.1 but the reverse was the actual truth!!!! Can you imagine that a gal that has only been fishing for bass seriously about 2 years beat me with that 13.4!!!!! But she did. At one place we fished for about 2 1/2 hours and caught many fish the smallest was over 6lbs!!!!!!!! I just have never seen such a huge % of the fish caught running over 6 lbs. Well I can't wait to get back for my next trip which is Oct 15. By the way they told us there was no topwater bite yet but we averaged 22 on top every morning early and the 10.8 was one of them. Yesterday morning we lost at least 4 fish over 10 lbs on top and got 2 over 8 and one over 9 in the boat. I guess it is pretty obvious that I am pretty pumped up about Baccarac and Terry's lodge.

We are normally closed during the rainy season but this season we have had a couple of groups. I just returned from the Lodge with a group of 4 Amigos from Texas. Big, Big rains and Lake Baccarac is coming very up very nicely . The fishing could not have been any better with the fish very shallow because of the rising water. Crazy Joe Dillard fished with me the fish day and caught a 16.1 whose picture is already postd at the Lodge. The monster fish was caught in Sonny's cove in very shallow water. During the heavy, heavy rain the fish feed on the surafce. Tom Secrest caught a 15.2 fishing with Juan in the same cove. Dalton caught 4 fish over 9 near the Damn and Dee caught one over 10 and one over 11. These fish where caught the first day at the Lodge during the rain. The second day was also very good with tons of big fish. I rate the fishing right now as excellent. We are working hard getting the Lodge ready for the regular season kick off.

A short recap of the best fishing I have ever had and also a word of thanks to the staff at the Lodge. Before I say much more I will make this claim “ Lake Baccarac is the best Lake in the world “
The private flight arrange for our group was first class and could not have been better. We landed at Bacubirito at 2:10 before 3 pm I was on the water and within the first 10 minutes I caught a 15.6 that’s right a fish over 15 pounds> by 4 pm the rain was like a waterfall at the guide’s request we continued to fish near the Hotel. Using nothing but crankbaits I caught 4 more fish over 13 pounds. Our group of 7 anglers all had similar results using everything from crankbaits to big spinnerbaits and big jigs. Just an unreal trip. Over the next 1 ½ days we caught all classes of fish Huge to small. The lake is alive with the best and toughest bass I have ever seen. I WILL BE BACK

Reporting from the Lodge. Outstanding results the first day on the water. Most in the camp are using 4" to 6" swimbait. My boat using only 5 inch pearl grubs rigged with 5/0 hooks we just found a bite all over the lake. A total of 167 fish caught today May 14th with 12.2 being the largest. Fish seemed to be just stacked around the islands in 18 foot of water. The other boat in my party caught a total of 125 fish with many fish near 10.0. Topwater bite is good early and late with some good blow ups of bigger fish., but the best pattern for us is grub fishing in the deeper water. The average size fish is the best we have seen it all year long. Today May 16th the swimbait bite has been excellent with many good fish being caught. North Canyon is holding lots of fish that can be caught using the big crankbaits BILLDANCE crankbaits. Tequlia Sunrise Worms produced fish over 10 pounds. If coming to the Lodge soon bring some Tequila Sunrise Worms, Gil Wrights group of 6 caught a total of 1201 bass

THANKS TERRY AND CHERYL FOR ANOTHER GREAT TRIP TO BACCARAC. AS ALWAYS THE FOLKS AT THE LODGE TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF US. THE FISHING WAS TERRIFIC. I PUT ON A LITTLE TOURNAMENT FOR OUR BUDDIES AND EACH GUY PROVIDES ME WITH THEIR BIG FISH WEIGHT EACH DAY. WE HAD OVER 50 FISH BETWEEN 6 AND 9 POUNDS. WE DID NOT HIT ANY DOUBLE DIGITS, BUT WE CAUGHT A LOT OF BIG FISH THAT HAD JUST SPAWN AND THE 9'S CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE BROKEN THE 10 POUND MARK. THE SENKO BITE ON A "WACKEY" WAS EXCELLENT, COLORS OF WATERMELON BEST, BUT WHITE WORKED AS DID BLACK W/BLUE FLECK. 8" MAGNUM LIZARDS ALSO EXCELLENT IN WATERMELLON, I ALSO HAD GOOD LUCK ON SWIM BATES IN PEARL W/ CHARTRUSE AND RAT'L TRAPS 1 OZ IN CHROME AND CHARTRUSE..... POINTS-HUMPS AND SUBMERGED ISLANDS SEEMED BEST, WHICH IS TIPICAL. THIS WAS OUR FOURTH TRIP THIS YEAR AND HOPE TO DO AT LEAST ONE MORE IF NOT TWO, THANKS - MIKE BARTON, KBMB3045@COX.NET

Baccarac just keeps surprising me trip after trip. With the most of the fish already spawned out and the water level dropping fast and fishing right on top of a full moon you would think the odds would have been stacked against the fisherman at the Lodge. Recently George Bain from Phx, Az reported catching 4 fish over 10 . George Mitchell of Midland, Texas catches a 10.8 using a Senko rigged wacky style. Mike Short also of Midland caught a nice 9.8 and 9.0 using senkos rigged wacky style. Mike Barton’s group from Phx, reported 100 plus fish days with lots of quality fish with biggest fish pushing 10 pounds. The fish are moving a lot from shallow to deep it seems like several times a day. Humps holding fish one day are not holding fish the next. I personally had my best day on the Lake in over a year. Fishing near the white cross Rene and I found a hump about 18 feet under the surface. We made a few casts and caught several small fish then we hit a 45 minute dry spell and did not catch a thing. Then right before we pulled up to depart Rene suggested we make a few more casts. The next cast I made I landed a 11.0 and then the next 5 fish weighed 40 pounds. We continued catching 7 pound fish for the next hour. Finally George Mitchell and his boat stopped to chat and George on his first cast on to the hump landed a 9.5 and Mike Short caught 9.0. Rene and I then gave up the spot to George’s boat and headed back to the Lodge for the evening. A Great day on the water at Lake Baccarac. The current water temp is 78 degrees and the lake level is %70

John Grossman caught 5 over10 and 4 over 9
James Strickland remarks best trip ever! James caught 11.5 and many other nice bass. John Mcter caught 10.2 and 11.2 Hal smith caught 11.4 and 10.2 and 6 over 9 The Backus brothers from Az report a 13 pounder and many, many fish between 8 and 11 also from Mike Knight this report What an absolute paradise! We really enjoyed the great fishing with plenty of huge bass. But what really stands out is the excellent service, experienced guides, delicious meals and superb lodgings. Once again, you have ruined us for any other lake! It was a real treat to see Russ & Renee again. Thanks from St. Louis. The water level is about %70 and everything looks great

Terry, Since you have opened the Lodge I have fished there 10 times in 6 different months. I am now a true believer that my June trips have been the best, with October being second best and then November ranking a close third. This trip however was good, not very good or excellent but good. But this ranking only applies to Lake Baccarac at this point in time. No other lake can compare. The results from this trip are as follows 2 fish over 10 ( nothing over 11 ) 6 fish over 9 then I had 32 fish over 8 countless fish in the 4 pound range. We could easily have caught over 100 per boat a day but stayed in deep water too much of the time. I do feel like out of all the guides I have fished with that Heil ( Hill) is the most professional and helpful guide you have, in my opinion. We did very well on 7” senkos and 9” Lizzards and had some luck on swimbaits. Slow rolling spinnerbaits in the brush produced the biggest two fish . Always good to see Rene and Russ the lodge is running like a well oiled machine . Many thanks and we will see you again in June. Tony Guerra

Fishing was slower on the morning of the 15th but the fishing was great the afternoon of the 15th. Big Bass bite was has been on. A lot better numbers on Friday with some boats able to catch over 100 bass. The number one bait has the 7" senko. Some have produced some nice fish using 1/2 oz rattletraps. The area of the lake called Norte is holding more bass than any other part of the lake according to Sonny Talkington. Randy Sweigart just called in a report from his trip. His group caught 2 fish over 10, 15 over 9 and countless fish over 8. Two days in a row his 5 biggest fish weighed 44 pounds. .Just awesome results. Swimbaits and senkos are the best baits on the lake right now.

In Mikes group of 12 all but one guy caught a fish over a 8 pounds. Gil Wright from OKC caught a nice 11.13 Monday morning on topwater ( Gil descride the fishing as an average day at Baccarac, figure that one out ) Ed Delgado's group from Puerto Rico landed 2 over 10 today and commented that Baccarac was th best lake they have fished in Mexico. I got lucky and landed a 9.2 on topwater yesterday while Rene landed a 10.8 on top at the same time. We were using the super spooks. We fished lots of different kinds of water and really found more fish on the flats near the Lodge. Anything over about 18 feet of water was to deep for us. Others at the Lodge did have good luck in deeper water. The water temp was 68 degrees yesterday morning and was 71 degrees yesterday afternoon. More reports coming soon

Most all at the lodge have stories of losing giants or seeing giants. Ron Davenport's group from Amarillo left the lodge reporting the best trip to Baccarac yet. Lloyd Croslin of Lubbock caught a 12.13 using a watermelon red brushhog. Dr. Larsen Brown caught a 10.4, a 10.8 and an 11.1 fishing the shallows. Julian definitely got top guide honors this week, winning the big fish pot for the Andrus group just returning. I witnessed my good friend, Joe Gann, catch a beautiful 11 1/2 lber on his first cast Wednesday afternoon, using a bright yellow 7 inch senko. Papachaw is definitely holding the bigger bass. Rancho Padre is holding the numbers. We flew private charter and this made the trip very memorable.

Much better than a few days ago.Big senkos, big spinnerbaits, medium crankbaits, and some topwater. The ranch area is offering the best numbers and the main lake points are holding the bigger fish, but the main lake point’s right are not very productive. The fish are moving, it seems like moving all day long and biting at different times every day.Soon the water will warm and the consistent bite will return. See at the Lake. Terry Hollan

We did record 7 more 10 pound plus bass to the record book but over all the bite was very slow. Some boats caught up to 100 fish a day but it was mostly the smaller bank runners. I fished hard on THursday and did find fish in 20 ft of water on the flats near the ranch but no real large numbers. Senkos and flukes worked very slow was overall the better bait. Some topwater early but is pretty random. Mike Barton at the Lodge today did catch a 10.7 on pumkin/chartuse lizzard in 22 ft of water near the cross. Will report more on Thursday Terry Hollan

Our group had an absolute blast we caught 2 fish that topped the scales at just over 11 lbs another 10, three that were 9 to 91/2 and at least another fifteen fish in the 7 to 9 lb range. The fishing in general was great we had a little rough weather but our guides Teo, Pablo and Sixto put us on quality fish not a day went by without at least 40 to 50 fish in the boat and at least several 5 to 7 lb chunks. Thanks again from Paul, Vinnie, Steve, Pat and I. See you next year.

We will definitely return for a attempt at "Big Momma" Mario was a wonderful guide.

Wrote...My good friend Kirk Mitchell and I, just returned from fishing four days down at Baccarrac. This is my fourth trip with Terry H. and Rene and as always it was an absolute pleasure. As is usual with this group everyone at the lodge worked extremely hard at ensuring a fine time was had by all. My fishing compradre and I (guided by Enrique) caught and released 56 fish the first day, 53 the second, 74 the third and 40 the fourth and last day. We had good top water fishing each day with the larger size poppers (river2sea and Rio Rico's in white) being the best producers, although I did have two "six's" the first morning on the Luckycraft Gunfish. The balance of the day was then spent fishing points, humps and flats with watermelon seeed or green pumpkinseed, 8" lizards, 7" senko's and the big 8" yamamoto grubs. At times the Zoom superflukes produce fish also but these were generally on the smaller size. Our big fish was 7 lbs and we had two other at 6.5, the rest ranged downwards from there. Other boats scored on bigger fish up to 11 lbs I beleive but not us. The fish (and the lake) seem to be in great shape, with multiple year classes very well represented. The lake is really in the midst of a strong "up cycle" and I beleive that as good as it is now, the best fishing is ahead of us. All in all it was a wonderful trip and I can't wait to go back. Many thanks to all the wonderful folks at the lodge (and Terry and Cheryl also!!) for making the trip a memorable one. Combined, this group are easily offering the finest run operation in Mexico these days. Best Regards Marshall

Rick Z reported today it was the best bass fishing he has ever seen, Rick has been fishing in Mexico for years. Guide Teddy got top honors the last several days with 2 over 11 yesterday in his boat. Spinnerbaits have produced the bigger fish but senkos-yumdringers producing the best overall. Rene is on the water this morning and has reported that some fish are starting to react to the bigger crankbaits

The numbers of fish you can catch around the area near the lodge is awesome. Using 8" grubs and the Yumdingers we have serveral in the 7 to 8 pound range. The area near the ranch is holding tons of fish but really there is no need to travel that far. The group that departed yesterday recorded 10 fish over 9 pounds with the biggest one being 12.5 pounds. The big fish hit everything from topwater to swimbaits.

Overall the numbers are down and fish are harder to find. Most boats can still catch 50 fish in a day if they work very hard The 8 and 9 pounders are still showing around Russes inland mostly on whitespinners. We are excepting rain this afternoon with highs in the 60's so the fluke and senko bite should be good. The three brother guide team of Eddie, Miguel and Jorge have been fishing the best of numbers and size of fish

With some very cold and cloudy weather recently over the area the the fish have suspended near the available cover. Mr Vernon Grizzard from Georgia who arrived 2 days ago found 11.6 pound Bass throwing a HUGE senko, others in his group caught 50 bass this afternoon using white flukes and white spinnerbaits. Yes the patterns have changed but the fish can still be caught. Until the cold weather passes patience will be the key during your bait presentations. Lake Baccarac Martin has been doing an excellent job targeting the suspended Bass

I'm very impressed and had an awesome time, already can't wait to go back. Mark and I fished with Eddie the whole trip and he was a very good guide, as good as I've fished with in Mexico. He put us on a good deep structure bite the first few days, using the depth finder to find schools on deep humps, then changed up and put us on the shallower fish later in the week when conditions changed. I had a 9 and good numbers of 8s and 7s, no double digits but I had my chances. Only 8 of us in the camp but big fish were caught daily and Sixto's customers did especially well, getting 2 12s, 2 11s and I think 3 or 4 more 10s. Muy caliente. We also saved a 10 lb'er that was choking on a tilapia, so evidence of grandes abounded. I'm looking forward to getting another crack at those big ones and I look forward to working with you to book anglers down there for an unforgettable trip. The lake certainly lived up to the fishing hype in my book. Tom Reddington

This moring while fishing in my favorite cove, I caught an 8 lb. bass that was being followed up to the boat by the biggest bass I have ever seen. I caught three fish over 16 1/2 lbs. since 1988 and the bass I saw today was without a doubt much bigger than the 18 3/4 that I caught in 1993. The big monster bass are still in the lake and hopefully, someday, will be caught by one of our guests. H. L. Talkington

Wrote...Jim Weathers and I had a GREAT time and a AWESOME trip down to Lake Baccarac Lodge. We fished November 16th, 17th & 18th with Sixto. This was our second trip down this year (we were there in early January) and most certainly, will not be our last. The topwater fishing had slowed down due to a cold front that had come thru the weekend before and the first day was a little slow (by Baccarac standards) but we caught 50 -60 fish with most being in the 4 lb to 6 lb range. The second day was a different story, Sixto was bound and determined to put us on big fish, and he delivered in a big way. We boated 5 fish over ten pounds on that second day. A 10.4, 10.14, 11.3, 11.6 and 12.6, we also had many in the 5 to 6 pound range and one 7.13. The big fish were caught on Crank Baits and Rattle Traps. We were not able to get any big ones in the boat the last day, though we had a couple of chances. As usual Rene, Russ, Tony and the rest of the Lodge staff did everything to make our stay the most enjoyable fishing trip we’ve ever been on. Special thanks to Sixto for all his help. I’ve attached pictures of all the 10 plus pounders. Thanks again for a great trip. Casey Dean Chico, Texas

Kelly Mayo and myself had 2 days with over 100 fish per day. The biggest of which was a 10.11 followed by the next biggest of 9.1 which was caught by my husband. Several of the fish were 4-8lbs. Almost all the big fish were caught on top water, poppers. What a thrill it is to see those fish explode on your popper. (Like someone threw a brick in the water.) We could have caught many more if we settled for 3-4lb. fish, but we, and our guide, Hiel?, who was an excellent guide, decided to look for bigger fish. The 10.ll was caught in the last 5 minutes of our fishing on the last fishing day. What a way to end an already spectacular fishing trip. The service is by far the best. They help you in every way they possibly can. What more can you ask for great service, great food, great people, great fishing, lots of laughs, and the list goes on. From a woman’s point of view, if you like fishing, don’t hesitate to go there. You will not regret it.

Alex Kozel of Paris, TX, catches three fish over 11 lbs. fishing with guide Hiel throwing big Bill Dance crankbaits. Crane Cameron of San Antonio gets a fish over 12 lbs. on a swimbait. Walter Baker of San Antonio, TX describes the fishing as unbelievable topwater, his boat catching 39 fish on topwater in one afternoon. Tog Rogers catching two fish over 11 lbs. and his fishing partner, Teddy Hart, catching a 14 lber. The last two days of fishing have been the best topwater Rene and his guides have even witnessed. Our new guide at Lake Baccarac Lodge, Miguel, and his clients yesterday caught 22 bass on topwater throwing Spittin' Image between 8 and 11 lbs. Miguel's brother, Eddie, and his clients had 12 bass between 7 and 10 lbs. caught on Zara Spooks. Rene reports 60 to 80 bass caught on topwater alone up to 9 1/2 lbs. The hottest parts of the lake now continue to be Sonny's Cove and Russ's Island. Rancho Padre coming in third place and Papachaw producing better fishing in the evening. The lake is stable at 85% capacity and we predict that topwater will only improve until we get the first cold snap (no telling when that may be).

I found that unusual after 55 years of bass fishing. The total for the third day was 107 bass. This is without a doubt the best big bass lake in the world at this time. Terry all your guys and gals came through with the same wonderful service that they always do. This was my sixth trip to this lodge. Gary

Wrote...Rene called in a fishing report last night. He says topwater action is getting better every day. Also there are plenty of big fish - 10+ lbers. - being caught off Russo's Isla. Mike Wilson of Tulsa, OK, landed an 11 lber., along with a 10.8 from his boat, and reported the average size fish is the best he has ever seen in his years of coming to Lake Baccarac. Mike fished topwater in the morning and fan casts, swimbaits across points and islands in the afternoon. Steve Groom of Amarillo, TX, had an unbelieveable trip! First three fish after lunch his second day of fishing - 8.2, 9.9 and 8.6. Steve said, "We caught so many big fish that we were calling 3 and 4 lbers. small." Floyd Brown of Odessa, TX, landed an 11.0 within the first five minutes of the day. David Humphrey of Phoenix, AZ, yesterday caught three or four over 10 lbs. In his words, "Incredible." As you can see, topwater action is getting better every day. If it mirrors last year, we will have a strong topwater bite until Christmas. Hurricane Paul is due to hit the West Coast today and should make a direct hit towards Lake Baccarac and Lake Huites. We'll keep you updated on conditions and fishing reports.

Wrote...Well...the topwater action finally exploded yesterday. Along with the standard crankbait/swimbait bite, poppers and buzzbaits absolutely whacked 'em yesterday. Most boats reported 120 to 140 fish with 80% weighing 5lbs or over. There were not a lot of fish over 8lbs yesterday, but thats probably cuz they can't beat the other fish to the bait! There was a 9.3 caught on a popper, and 6 or so over 8, but most everything else was 5-7lbs. When the wind picked up, there were two choices, throw the Storm 4" pearl swimbait, with a reel and stop cadence, or throw topwater in the calmer coves. Action was non stop for most boats and everyone here at the lodge is ecstatic
